This ratchet allows you to connect to your standard scissor jack, and by using 1 hand start jacking up your vehicle without the need of your 2-piece crank typically included with your vehicle.

This is useful particularly if the vehicle is near a kerb or any situation that may be difficult to rotate the cranks.  Even beginners can use this. 

 Simply crank side to side like a tick-tock motion, saving your wrists.

Change the switch to rotate the scissor jack the opposite direction (to crank vehicle up or down)
